In A Huff Blog

I have said in the past in my post “The Left Running Scared” (which you can see here) : http://www.politicallyempowered.com/Blog/tabid/7125/EntryID/1152/Default.aspx ) that the public will follow the line of attack. It turns out I was right if the current polls are correct in showing increased support for the so called “Astroturf” townhall protesters.

I was interested to see that Charles Krauthammer of Fox News, apologized this week and admitted his error in saying that loud and “uncivil” discourse would work against the right – or the people who are against the government health care take over.

It is now shown this is the best thing that can be done by those who are opposed to the expansion of government to include cradle to grave health care and with it the loss of freedom and privacy.

The combined strength of the most powerful politicians on Capital Hill and in the Whitehouse could not dissuade the people from determining that the concerns of these townhall people were and are real. These are the people that get up and go to work every day. These are the people who do not normally go out to political rallies and meetings. They are busy with their lives, growing children and grandchildren. They are trying to plan for retirement. They are not paid activist. It takes a serious issue to get this sort of person out.

There is a growing dissatisfaction with not just Democrats but all politicians who want to intrude more and more on the lives and pocketbooks of Americans. But it is more than that. It is the sense that our great country is going to turned into a third world country if the current trend continues. Our debts are now greater than all other debt the world has ever seen and the politicians want to spend more, print more money and borrow more from our enemies.

People are getting tired of being told that we have to buy oil from our enemies because environmentalist who have the politicians in their pocket or who are just scared to death, when we have coal, oil and natural gas here that we can safely mine and drill for. (California could get out of its budget crisis if they would just authorize drilling off the coast…but I digress.)

The people who actually pay the bills for the country are waking up to the fact that the bills are too high and there are an a lot of people that are not paying their fair share (who are NOT the rich). They are getting tired of those who demand the government implement more and more programs that pay others for their bad behavior. They are tired of the government usurping the laudable goals of charities by implementing programs that do the same thing (but badly and inefficiently) using money extorted from those who work hard and pay their own way.

I applaud the townhall attendees and encourage more to voice their opposition to any sort of government plan to take over health care or generate more “revenue” by the “kneecap and trade” legislation, or any other government expansionist plans.

More people invoking the Constitution in fighting these blatant attempts to infringe our founding document also encourage me. I cheer on everyone to read the Constitution and to challenge every politician to answer the question “Where in the Constitution does it give you the power to do this?” The Federal government has enumerated powers. It can ONLY do what the Constitution say it can do…that wall has been breached quite awhile ago but that does not mean it is too late to stand in that breach and push back those committing the violation.

Re: The Left Running Scared? Townhall

I just pray that the awakening is not just for the short term and that we are on the cusp of seeing a real change in American government. Hopefully we are returning to the constitutional principles of our founding fathers.

Greg, This is a moving piece. More importantly you are absolutely correct in your assessment of what is going on. This part of the piece "It is the sense that our great country is going to turned into a third world country if the current trend continues." really sturck a note with me. I have just returned from a month long trip to Malaysia with one week of that in Shanghai, China. We all tend to think of China as a "third world country" but that is not true at all. Shanghai is a very modern city of, now get this, 22 million people about 7 to 10 times as big as Houston in population and also in the shear size of the city. Everywhere you look there is construction and China is taking over all or our manufacturing. WHY? Well the answer is that our government is driving our manufacturing out of our country. We are more than a trillion dollars in debt to China and are likely to be much deeper in debt to them in the near future. If they should call for the elimination of that debt we can not pay it and China will own us all - lock, stock and barrel. The Chinese government may be our enemy but the people are not our enemy. The people that I met while I was there in Shanghai were warm, friendly and very hospitable people. We could not have been treated more graceously. But let me digress; if we can not get our governmen turned around to comply with their constitutional responsibilities we need to call a convention of the states and throw the B-----Ds out of office including the COCKROACH IN CHIEF in the Oval office and in the House and Senate and replace them with Senators and Representatives who will comply strictly with our constitution. As you have so correctly pointed out we have all of the natural resources and all of the expertise necessary to regain our leadership of the world in EVERY DISCIPLINE as we have done in the past if we can only get the RIF-RAF out of our federal government. It is time the left was feeling the heat and running scared. I hope that they have a lot of sleepless nights fron now on. Miner.
