Some Basic Healthcare Facts:
*The media claims there are between 40 to 50 million uninsured Americans
*Obama referred to 46 million uninsured Americans who he is focused on helping with his legislation
*The US Census Bureau places the uninsured at 45.7 million people
*Nearly 10 million of the 45.7 million are not citizens – reducing the uninsured citizens to 35.9 million at best
*These same 40 to 50 million uninsured are said to be unable to afford insurance
*More than 17 million make at least $50,000 per year (the median household income is $50,233) chose not to purchase insurance
*25% of the uninsured already qualify for existing government health insurance programs. They are the uninsured who already get $1500 of free healthcare per year or $6000 per family of four
*Many of the remaining uninsured are those between jobs and will likely be insured within a few months
*The Kaiser Family Foundation puts the number of uninsured Americans who aren’t qualified for government programs at between 8 to 13 million
*The CBO analysis found that 36 million people would remain uninsured even if the $1.6 trillion health care plan is passed
The bottom-line is we don't know who these illusive uninsured are that we are being ask to helpi nor if the legislation being proposed will even help any of them.
So, until we know what the issues are and we know exactly what we are going to acheive, why would we be so willing to give politicians an open check book that would mortgage our children’s future? If we wanted to pass a bill without it being read and the purpose of it not being fully explained, what do we need them for anyway? Maybe we should begin by starting to paying them what they are worth? Let’s begin by asking our legislators to do the job they were elected to do, being good stewards with our money and present bills for consideration that are simple enough for the average citizen to understand. (That alone might be a challenge based on the education system they have bestowed us with.)
Where is the “Common Sense” that we should be expecting of our politicians? It just doesn’t appear to be very common among them.
