Education

With public education we receive broad standards; private educational institutions can come up with their own standards for hiring teachers, spending money and graduating students. This can lead to more efficient practices or less efficient practices. From our current system we can see that most private schools tend to get more done with less versus local public schools. Allowing for more strict competition between the two sectors would put pressure on school boards to provide better schooling for less money through competition or face extinction. School vouchers are a way to have public and private schools compete directly. They allow parents the opportunity to choose where the tax money that will be spent on the education of their child will be used. If the parent wants to use this money at a private school then the public school loses that money. Public schools then have to compete for the dollars in their budget and have more reason to provide better schooling to students.

*With all the opposition toward alternative education the results are that home schooled children dominate academic competitions and get superior scores on standardized tests. They excel at all the things compulsory education laws are meant to promote, such as school attendance, academics and civic education.

*The purpose of education is to prepare a child for adulthood by providing them with basic skills that will allow them to have options in their next stage in life.  The question is what these basic skills are and what is indoctrination?  As they enter the next stage of their life the great majority enter a world totally unrelated to their prior elementary and high school experience.  Will they enter the world of work or of further education, are they doing what they are best suited for or are they continuing their indoctrination in an education system that has so often failed child and parent alike?

*So, what is it we expect from our education system?  Please send us your thoughts on this subject at http://www.politicallyempowered.com/AboutUs/ContactUs/tabid/6186/Default.aspx
